Michelle Bakke - Boost Psychology - Registered Psychologist Hi, my name is Michelle, and I’m a Registered Provisional Psychologist at Boost Psychology. If you’re feeling weighed down, pressured, overwhelmed, or anxious, I would love to help you sort through those feelings and make sense of them while connecting your mind to your body. I strongly believe in the mind-body connection, the uniqueness of everyone, evidence-based practices, and a human-centered approach to therapy. I draw from approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SF), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and the Gottman Method. I work with all individuals 16+ and couples. I have several years of experience working with vulnerable populations, responding to people in crisis, and working alongside first responders.

I started my university journey with a diploma in Police and Security and moved on to a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. I had the original goal of moving into law enforcement, but realized that was not the career for me. Through my experience, I realized that I enjoy helping others with their mental well-being and conducting investigations so I went back to school with the goal of working in psychology. I then completed my internship during my Master’s program in Counselling Psychology at Boost and am thrilled to be back. I have since found comparisons between the skills needed for law-enforcement investigations to the skills needed to investigate the mind during therapy. During my time as a Provisional Psychologist, I plan to learn more about trauma and take trauma-informed therapy courses.

Outside of providing therapy, I spend a lot of time with my husband and friends, walking my dog, hiking, working in the yard, and reading.

Education:

  • Yorkville University, Master of Counselling
  • Athabasca University, Bachelor of Professional Arts, Criminal Justice Major
  • MacEwan University, Police and Security Diploma
