Counselling Therapist
Hello! Thank you for taking the first step towards finding support. For some people, they may have been thinking about connecting with a therapist for a while; for others, there may have been a sudden life change or other unexpected difficulties that prove challenging to manage in the here and now. Wherever you are in your journey, and for whatever reasons that led you to seek out counselling right now in your life, I welcome and value the choice and work you are already doing to make changes in your life.
My name is Nabiha Rawdah, and I am a registered provisional psychologist at Boost Psychology. My pronouns are she/her, and I am a racialized settler of Middle Eastern origin. I have been living in Edmonton for the past three years with my spouse and young child.
My passion for studying psychology took shape when I was an adolescent growing up in a small town, attempting to understand myself and others. On a whim, I purchased Abraham Maslow’s autobiography at a book sale and was inspired by the gentle, kind, and positive view of human nature. This defining moment sparked my interest in studying psychology later on in my life, and contributed to a deeply held appreciation and respect for the field of psychology as a whole.
I worked and volunteered in various community counselling settings in my early adulthood, both in Edmonton and while doing my graduate training in British Columbia. After over a decade of working in support provider roles in the postsecondary sector, I recently changed my career focus and am currently forging a path towards becoming a registered psychologist. Some would say that life has come full circle, coming back to the original passion and interest I held in psychology as an adolescent so many years ago.
I approach the counselling process with an open mind, a caring heart, and a deep willingness to embrace the sometimes inevitable growing pains, learning curves, and edges that we all go through on the road to healing, growth, recovery, and change. I have also engaged in ongoing personal therapy as a client myself, and relate to the natural ebbs and flows that are part of the personal growth journey. The innate hope and faith that most things are ‘figure-out-able’ can sometimes alert us to perspectives and opportunities that we never imagined before.
My personal “vibe” can be described as warm, kind, compassionate, with an occasional and well-timed witty sense of humor to help soften heavy moments. I view the process of change and growth in counselling as occurring with the co- creation of a safe and strong therapeutic relationship between a client and a therapist, and serves as a landscape for clients to be supported in exploring, re-imagining, and learning new ways of experiencing themselves, others, and the world. I also respectfully center clients as the informed expert on their own lives, as well as the changes they wish to see manifested in their lives.
I offer individual counselling to adult clients with a range of general presenting concerns, including stress management, burnout, interpersonal relationship issues, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, career and life transitions, trauma, and emotional regulation. I draw on a blend of therapeutic modalities and approaches that are tailored according to each individual client’s goals, lived experiences, and intersectionality within larger contexts. Under supervised practice, I use a variety of evidence-based and client-centered interventions guided by solution-focused, narrative, cognitive-behavioural, and mindfulness-based therapies. Over the course of my own learning, I aim to obtain additional training in prolonged exposure therapy (PE), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT).
I strive to support clients in reaching whatever goals they wish in therapy- whether that may be increasing coping skills and strategies; achieving greater insight and awareness into themselves and their concerns; reaching a greater alignment with their authentic self and personal values, and other meaningful goals to help foster increased wellbeing, hope, resilience, adaptability, and quality of life.
I am committed to ongoing professional development training to ensure the highest standards of ethical practice, knowledge, skills, and competence as per the standards of practice outlined by the College of Alberta Psychologists.
I provide psychological services under the supervised practice of Dr. Chelsey Wakefield, Psy.D., Registered Psychologist.
I look forward to connecting with you on your personal growth journey!
